Videos You Need To See: Manic Gamer
This is my section where I tell you about the videos I think you need to see. Before hand I’ll give a little blurb about the video, why I think you should watch it, how I found it etc. Whatever I find interesting about the video and that I think you’ll find interesting too! Without further ado I will get into it.
I’m an avid gamer and not only does this lead me to play lots of games but I also keep an eye out for reviews, read articles, listen to podcasts, watch T.V. shows. And what I’ve learned is that sometimes these reviews can be hit or miss. Sometimes I find them interesting sometimes I disagree, sometimes the people just drive me mental because they come across as uneducated and illiterate because they can’t speak. But I don’t give up hope and keep checking things out, and it was on my gaming culture hunt that I was sent to check out this video.
He’s known as the ‘Manic Gamer’ and he really is just that, maniacal and its AWESOME! The write up that goes along with the video: the Manic Gamer hits you upside the head weekly with his personal take on videogames and the industry…
And does it ever smack you in the face, with a fast paced review of the games you should have played with a twist because of the humor tacked onto the narration along with the review. You just need to see it to fully understand what I’m trying to get at, but it’s fun, quick, hilarious and if you love gaming keep an eye out for the Manic Gamer because I’m sure there will be more coming.
Now enjoy this mental video!
Nightmare Snow Globes!
I know this is out of season, but I could not pass on the opportunity to spread the word on nightmare snow globes. I’m not actually 100% sure if that is what they are actually referred to as… but I like calling them that. Snow globes are typically idealized winter images. Either the happy couple skating on the frozen pond, or that too perfectly decorated tree. Or the generic form of the initial snow globe, just that a transparent glass sphere placed on a base with flakes of white something-or-other floating in water that gets turned up when physically shaken. What I love about these creations from P.P.O.W. in New York, is that they take this whole simple principle of what a snow globe ’should’ be and turns it onto its head.

Have you really ever seen something like this? It’s absolutely brilliant! I think that they made them for an art gallery, but it is just such a fantastic dark and twisted idea. I want them all over my house in the winter! Unfortunately I don’t actually own one of these fantastic masterpieces, but I have a feeling they are no doubt out of my price range due to the fact that there are no prices listed on the page with the pictures.
I love crazy artwork like this that pushes the envelope and is going to make some people cringe, others slam their fists in protest and those along with me who are jumping up and down with joy. The site has tons and tons of different ones, including that skating scene I described with the people jumping off a cliff, a snake like man attacking a person walking, old women with machine guns, you name it they’ve got it, enjoy!
Tremor and Slip: Album From a New Fantastic Singer
Kaya Fraser is a new up and coming musician that I’ve really taken an interest to. Not to mention that I know her personally, but really I think she’s someone to listen to and keep an eye on. This Saturday I might actually be going to see her in concert for the first time and I’m really excited about it. (As an aside, another concert I’m excited for is Tokyo Police Club on Feb. 1st!!)
Her soulful, sensual voice will warm and cool your heart together in one moment. Her voice soothes you into a relaxed state of deeper listening, then her lyrics reach into your heart and tug at those darker corners that are easier to overlook than to find meaning in.
I met Kaya at school, she is the Teaching Assistant for my Canadian Lit. class, not only did her sweet personality win me over initially her music has inspired me. Her career has really taken off and all because she took a chance. She followed her heart and did what she wanted, not what someone else told her to do, and I respect her so much for that. Not to mention that she utilized her own degree in English to write lyrics, it has driven me to never stop until I reach my goal with my own degree. She is swamped with all of her concerts and will be heading to New York in February! She’s moving international!
So definitely go and give her a listen and I will give a concert review joint with my one on Tokyo Police Club in February.
TGIF tomorrow!
