Something’s Missing
This is a poem I wrote when I first moved into my apartment. I moved out of my house and into what should become my new home… But it wasn’t homelike at all, and even now I still feel an emptiness. It’s simplistic and very focused on the senses, as if you could picture the scene and try to find that same meaning within yourself.
Something’s Missing
I lay stretched out on the bed
Fully dressed
Music pours fluid streams
And I lose myself amidst the notes
I look up at the ceiling
Expecting to see more
To feel more
But something is missing
And yet, I know it won’t be like this forever
-Cynthe Love
I know now it’s not something, it’s someone.

The Kills

The Kills are a band I stumbled across last month. I was scanning magazines on the drug store shelf rolling my eyes and making a fuss to my roommate about how much I hate modern media. The way women’s magazines portray women in a way that will give the reader a poor sense of self, too thin models, unachievable beauty goals not to mention most of the products are out of the price range for the average reader, and how all of these things generally leave a girl feeling like crap and then the back of the magazine is filled with ads for dieting programs and pills and ads for plastic surgery. But I digress. So it was mid-rant when I came across the magazine Nylon.
So at first glance it had this really edgy pair on the front, a man and a woman (who I later found out to be Alison “VV” Mosshart, and Jamie Hince from the The Kills). I already found the duo odd since I could tell the magazine was aimed at a sort of progressive fashion oriented audience, so I brought it home. And it was incredible, so many amazing fashion tips that are easy to incorporate into your own fashion without the replication spouted out of other magazines. It also had a full fledged culture, photography and music section, with a segment on The Kills.
I had never heard of the band before, but after reading the article I could do nothing but say wow, and look into their music immediately, and they did not disappoint.
They are an indie band from the U.K. who began in 2000. They are confident in their unique sound, you can hear their influences (most notably PJ Harvey and Patti Smith) in the vocals and lyrics but as for the musical aspect it was definitely something new. It’s rough, grungy, a type of modern garage rock. Their newest album they boast to have tried to make something completely 2008. They aren’t reaching back to old types of music or mimicking past styles they wanted to make something that hasn’t been heard before.
Their album No Wow (2005) is incredible, with a mixture of up beat as well as slowed down tunes. The album contains a mix of electronic, rock and acoustic instrumentals with lyrics suiting to the choice of instrument.
Places you may or may not know them from. Jamie Hince is currently Kate Moss’ significant other, and Alison I recognized from her accompaniment on Placebo’s track “Meds” from their album of the same name. Also The Kills‘ song “Wait” can be heard in the film Children of Men (2006).
If you’re interested No Wow can be bought now and their newest album, Midnight Boom which I am eagerly awaiting is coming out this month.

Definitely worth it to look into these up and comers.

Wall Bricolage Cont’d
I have still been working on my wall collage. I just took a little break from posting about it because I was at my parents house last week and wasn’t here to work on it. Not a ton has changed, I added some more stuff obviously but still not quite where I want it to be. In any case have a look, I want to work on another poem like the one I had that revolved around the number 7. I have a lot of things cut out that are waiting to be put up so hopefully it will be on its way to being covered completely soon!

Pata-Pata-Pata-Pon!
I apologize for my brief hiatus, I was at my parents house on my spring break/ reading week/ conference week depending on where you live in the world, and I took the time to myself just to relax and be with my partner.
So what is this post all about? It is about my ultimate journey to buying a PSP, and the amazing game that is Patapon!
It was my birthday last week, and my day wasn’t really all that I’d hoped it would be. My gifts were fantastic but my plans got all messed up so it left me with a sour taste in my mouth. The next day I locked my keys in my car… while running… with the spare keys at work with my mother. At this point I’m glad it was not my birthday or I may have lost it, and my terrible day made the previous day seem fun in retrospect. What it came down to was that I was miserable, and I went and bought Patapon to make me happy. Which is all well and good, but at that point I bought the game without owning a PSP. I bought it with the intent that one day I will own a PSP, and I was worried that because Patapon comes at such a great price ($19.99 new release price…I know!) I wouldn’t be able to find it later. So I bought a copy.
So I now have a game I’ve been waiting for months for it to come out and I have it and can’t play it. I was debating purchasing one but decided I would save my pennies. Ultimately my mother realizing how miserable I was when it was supposed to be a happy time around my birthday convinced me to treat myself because I never do. And she was right I never do, so I broke the bank and purchased my shiny, wonderful, amazing PSP.
I got to play Patapon and wow was it ever everything I wanted and so much more. It’s a rhythm game, but it also combines RPG and strategy elements. I firmly believe that this game has something for everyone and at the amazing price how can you say no?
Not to mention that it looks amazing! It’s smooth, graphics are awesome, the sound is good, the colors are bright and the characters are cute! And above all else it’s so much fun! There are multiple level designs, different levels come with their own songs to keep the beat with, I was over all impressed and can’t put the game down.
As an aside I’m over all impressed with the PSP, it can do so much more than just play games for me, which is something I was really looking for and my Nintendo DS couldn’t offer me. I love them both, but for my needs at the moment the PSP is perfect.
So yes there is my long winded return and I will try to have my posts more regular, but I have massive assignments coming up so I may be hit and miss! In the mean time enjoy this preview of Patapon!
