Video You Need To See: Manic Gamer Week I

Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at 7:50:54 am (Gaming, Videos) (, , , , , , , , )

The manic gamer is back and has yet again outdone himself. This episode turned into more of a rant than a review but you know it’s really difficult to say what he is going to come up with from one episode to another. Some of you may have also noticed that he’s moved from Episodes I-IV to Week I. Well that is because he is now broadcasting via Toronto Thumbs. Which just quickly, is a new site that covers various gaming content include breaking news, reviews and tattoos… Well no but it rhymed and the Manic Gamer is making me a little off kilter today, it’s been a long week. But seriously it’s a site that is targeting Canadian gamers but their content is good and relevant to anyone and it is also updated frequently which is something that I really like about it.

This episode of the Manic Gamer discusses the new used game market Best Buy is trying, Itagaki’s leaving of Tecmo, some new games including Spore, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Linger In Shadows. And he may or may not call the CEO of EA a shady character from Germany’s past… Buuuut he’s hard to censor.

So enjoy and tune in to the next episode as the Manic Gamer takes your mind share piece by piece.

Video You Need To See: Stop Motion Mania!

Monday, April 28, 2008 at 9:06:41 am (Videos) (, , , , , , )

I have been a fan of this video for a while, someone showed it to me last year sometime and I was thoroughly impressed by it! It is a stop motion video, now not only am I impressed because of how well done the video is, but stop motion takes so much time and effort I applaud anyone for tackling it. Especially with the smoothness and clarity that was done for this video.

So the video is a guy playing the drums and the piano on a split screen and he puts the two together to make a song. At the end you find out that the guy in the video does not know how to play the drums or the piano, but I’m positive he must have some musical background even if it’s another instrument or he wouldn’t have been able to compose the song. It’s a really good video and pay attention for when he starts drumming really quickly, he has quite a bit of video editing talent!

Enjoy!

Video You Need To See: Manic Gamer Ep. IV!

Saturday, February 23, 2008 at 7:53:46 pm (Gaming, Videos) (, , , , , , , , , , )

He’s at it again, the manic gamer is bringing us to Libyca yet again with another episode of The Manic Gamer.

This is episode 4, The Manic Gamer vs. Any Semblance of Structure?
The lack of structure in this video makes it more manic then ever! With a killer intro. And for anyone who wants to know I have seen one of those N64 controllers after a Mario Party marathon and I think that is an accurate analogy haha. He does a little more new game advertising than normal (no he’s not getting paid to tell you about the games) but none the less, it’s awesome.

My favorite part is when he needs a bit of Zen to overcome his frustrations and he picks the most manic game EVER! ChuChu Rocket, which by the way is an amazing game.

In any case enjoy the episode and keep an eye out for more to offer from The Sibylla Group.

Video You Need To See: 2097

Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at 6:18:42 pm (Gaming, Videos) (, , , , , , , , , )

Today’s subject: 2097: 0.0 pilot- WipEout

One of these days I will find the time to create a post that isn’t showing you videos, but who doesn’t love a thought provoking piece of media to check out every once in a while, I certainly don’t which is why I think you should really check this out.

The description attached to the video is as follows: 2097 explores the gaming industry and the products they create through a cultural context. Seeking an evolving dialogue relating to issues that the industry faces as it begins to define and understand itself in relation to the world around it.

The reason for posting this video is because of a little itty bit of shameless self promotion since I will be helping out with the narration in spring. This is a project that my partner in crime made a couple weeks ago, and I’m sharing it because it has a much more serious tone to it. Although some people may find it to be a little much to take in at first, I find it so refreshing for someone to take the gaming industry seriously and actually taking the time to do some research into the effects of gaming as a prolific form of media. As for content this is the pilot for an episodic show dealing with the game series Wipeout and the way in which it adapts culture and pushes the envelope. If you’re a fan of the series this is definitely something for you to check out because it is actually very very informative.

The video editing is smooth, the visuals are relevant and thought provoking, with a mix of outside material as well as footage of in game play. There is a quick digression midway on the evils of post modernism, or I guess I should say the way in which post modernism is analyzed within this context, which can be forgiven or reveled in depending on the opinion of the viewer.

Now, without creating any more text for you to read through and then also suggesting some viewing I present you with the video. It is a more lengthy than some of the other videos I have posted, and it is presented in two parts. I strongly encourage you to take a look at both parts, even if you check part one out now, and part two out at a later time. In any case, enjoy this new edge on gaming:

Video You Need To See: The Manic Gamer Episode III

Friday, February 8, 2008 at 10:43:11 am (Gaming, Videos) (, , , , , , , , , , )

I’ve already posted Episodes I&II of this internet show so I feel as though I should continue the trend. If you haven’t checked this out yet you should, it’s a really funny review. As the title suggests it is a game review since he is the manic gamer after all. It is a fast paced in your face review that talks about the topic and a game review, while parodying culture and humoring over things that are happening in the world.

If you like this video be sure to check out episode I&II on YouTube, or on my blog. They’re all quick short and to the point. Todays topic is on the baddies we face in video games.

Now, without further ado I present, The Manic Gamer vs. The Baddies

Video You Need To See: The Shining Parodytrailer

Friday, February 8, 2008 at 10:34:30 am (Videos) (, , , , , , , )

The Shining The feel good movie of the year… wait what?

This is a brilliantly done video that shows the powers of video editing and music, that they are able to turn a film like The Shining (assuming you’ve seen it) into the feel good movie of the year. Complete with a lead into the song Salisbury Hill.

I was shown this video about a week ago in my film class, and meant to post it because not only is it absolutely hilarious. But it is also done really well, it really does look like a movie trailer. The editing is smooth and music is fitting and well timed. It’s definitely a must see.

I remembered to post this video because I called my mom the other night because I knew she was home alone and I wanted to make sure she was alright, we live in a big house in the country so it can get a bit spooky. So I call and she answers and I ask if she’s alright and she says oh yeah I’m great I’m watching The Shining. Then I remembered well it is the sweet story of a family coming together after all… Enjoy!

Video You Need To See: Manic Gamer Episode II

Sunday, February 3, 2008 at 12:19:26 pm (Gaming, Videos) (, , , , , , , )

Last week I introduced everyone to the Manic Gamer. The next video I have to share is also from him, but it is Episode II: Manic Gamer vs. Under Defeat.

In my opinion this video was even funnier than the first one. He completely takes you by surprise and although the ultimate goal is to share the video game with you, he also really wants to make you laugh. I guess I should also add that this is a project that I help to edit, so constructive criticism is always welcome, So check it out!

Videos You Need To See: Manic Gamer

Thursday, January 31, 2008 at 12:49:46 pm (Gaming, Videos) (, , , , , , , )

This is my section where I tell you about the videos I think you need to see. Before hand I’ll give a little blurb about the video, why I think you should watch it, how I found it etc. Whatever I find interesting about the video and that I think you’ll find interesting too! Without further ado I will get into it.

I’m an avid gamer and not only does this lead me to play lots of games but I also keep an eye out for reviews, read articles, listen to podcasts, watch T.V. shows. And what I’ve learned is that sometimes these reviews can be hit or miss. Sometimes I find them interesting sometimes I disagree, sometimes the people just drive me mental because they come across as uneducated and illiterate because they can’t speak. But I don’t give up hope and keep checking things out, and it was on my gaming culture hunt that I was sent to check out this video.

He’s known as the ‘Manic Gamer’ and he really is just that, maniacal and its AWESOME! The write up that goes along with the video: the Manic Gamer hits you upside the head weekly with his personal take on videogames and the industry…
And does it ever smack you in the face, with a fast paced review of the games you should have played with a twist because of the humor tacked onto the narration along with the review. You just need to see it to fully understand what I’m trying to get at, but it’s fun, quick, hilarious and if you love gaming keep an eye out for the Manic Gamer because I’m sure there will be more coming.

Now enjoy this mental video!
